The Consistency Cup Challenge

by | Jul 24, 2023

Your first social media goal needs to be consistency. It’s the only path to success.

Why is it SO hard for us to be consistent on social media?

I had ice cream for lunch yesterday.

(Feels like I should have warned you about that abrupt segue – still talking about social media consistency here).

Could I have had a salad?

Of course! I know they are good for me.

But if I eat salads for lunch all week instead of ice cream, the benefit of noticeable improvement in my health doesn’t happen for weeks!

But the ice cream brings me joy NOW.

The same can be true for social media. If you put up a week of great content on Instagram (or whatever platform you’re focusing on), the big benefits don’t happen right away.

So how do we fix this consistency problem?

First, I want to remind you what will happen when you ARE consistent!

What Happens When You ARE Consistent?

You joined Social Media Leads Lab because you want more clients and customers from social media, right?

But additional motivation can come from knowing what you are working toward…

When you are consistent on social media:

1) Your organic (free) reach will go up substantially!

This is 100% true. When you are posting and engaging regularly, you will reach more people for free.

2) Your business will be top of mind which leads to an increase in referrals.

If you are consistently in front of people (even those who are already your clients) you will get more people talking about your offer and the problem you solve.

3) You will be less overwhelmed. Seriously.

I know that right now just the idea of posting consistently may sound overwhelming – that’s because anything outside of what we are currently doing feels unnatural.

But once you are consistent, that will become normal for you.

4) You can outsource your social media.

When you aren’t haphazardly throwing things up as you think of them, you can easily (and inexpensively) turn your posting over to someone else.

How Do We Start Being Consistent?

The short (and annoying) answer to this question is, “just start posting.”

But we often tell ourselves we have to get other things in place first, or that we’ll start “as soon as I finish ________.”

Don’t do that.

Start being consistent on social media now with these steps:

1) What social network are you going to be focusing on?

Pick one.

And if you need help, you might video this video helpful:

Or you can ask in the Leads Lab Facebook Group.

 2) How often are you going to post?

One of the questions I get asked more than any other is, “How often should I post?”

And the first part of the answer is always, “How many times per week can you post, even when you’re busy?

I recommend starting with 2-3 times per week to start.

Once you’re consistent with that, and you see results, you might be motivated to add more.

But keep it simple to start.

Those 2 things are all you need to start being consistent!

And if you’re wondering WHAT to post, don’t overthink it at this stage.

Just.

Start.

Posting.

Of course there are LOTS of resources inside Social Media Leads Lab, including templates (login required), to help you.

But this content isn’t going to be perfect – but it’s going to be posted!

If we go back to our analogy about getting healthy, you don’t have to run 10 miles the first time you work out, right? You could just walk a mile, and that’s great.

The same goes for your posts when you’re building a consistent habit.

How Do You Know You Will Be Successful?

Eventually you’ll want a solid system in place, which is a key part of what we teach inside Social Media Leads Lab.

But first, just get going and b consistent for a few weeks, then worry about creating a better system.

And to help you with that we’re rolling out a way to keep you accountable!

(Plus a bribe).

Introducing The Consistency Cup Challenge…

We’re utilizing a few strategies borrowed from the psychology of motivation to help you, including accountability, a little competition, and some rewards.

First, you’re going to announce to the world (more specifically our Leads Lab community) that you are going to be consistent.

And you’ll do that by signing up using the link I’m emailing you.

Phase One:

Habits can take time to build, but all you need to do for the first phase is post consistently for your business on ONE social network for 4 weeks.

Think you can do that?

Do it for 2 weeks and I’ll unlock a special training to help you be even more consistent. It uses some of the principles from James Clear’s bestselling book Atomic Habits.

NOTE: I don’t want you to have this training when you start – it will just be a distraction, But I think it will be helpful when you’ve completed 2-3 weeks consistently.

Then after 4 weeks of consistency, I (Jerry Potter) will take a private look at your most recent posts and give you feedback on how you can make them more effective.

Remember I told you to get posting and we’d worry about making the posts better later on?

This isn’t something I can do for everyone, but I will do it to reward you for completing Phase One.

Phase Two:

If you are then consistent for 4 more weeks (way to go, 8 weeks in a row!) you’ll be rewarded with a very special gift in the mail.

I’ll share more about what this is soon, but it will not only reward the success you’ve already had, but help you sustain and grow even more!

Phase Three:

Did you post 12 weeks in a row? You’re amazing!

Once you do, there will be a valuable reward for you.

I’m not going to tell you what it is, because that’s not why you should be doing this. You should be doing this for the reasons listed above, including increased reach, improved top-of-mind awareness, knowing what messaging resonates best with your ideal audience, and most of all…

…more clients and customers.

Ready?

Once you start seeing the results of being consistent, it becomes easier.

Whenever a business owner says, “I don’t have time to post on social media,” it’s an incomplete sentence.

What they are actually saying is, “I don’t have time to post on social media if it doesn’t make me money.”

When you see posting consistently IS making you money, finding time to do it becomes easy.

Are you ready to be consistent on social media?
